Remembering Franklin
A life held close in memory
Franklin “Frankie” Joseph Benedict, born January 2, 1989 in Ashtabula, Ohio, was someone who brought thoughtfulness and quiet curiosity into the lives of those who knew him. A graduate of Edgewood High School, Frankie was pursuing studies in communications at Kent State University and balanced school with work as a third-shift supervisor at the Streetsboro Walmart, where coworkers respected his dedication.
Frankie had a lively, reflective mind: he loved films and often discussed their style and composition, and his family joked that he should have been a critic. He was an avid reader, especially of biographies and science fiction, and he treasured time with friends at concerts and on trips — including visits to California and New York that broadened his horizons.
A loving son to Rick and Tina (Wright) Benedict, and a devoted brother and uncle, Frankie drew people close with his ability to make others feel appreciated. Family remembered him for his high ideals, moral steadiness, and an easy way of talking to anyone so they felt seen. He is survived by his parents; his sister Alyvia (John) Camplese and their son Johnnie; half-brother John Vincent; extended family and many friends who treasured his warmth.
Frankie died unexpectedly on July 8, 2015. Those who loved him remember his generosity of spirit, his thoughtful conversations about books and movies, and the small kindnesses that defined his everyday life. At his family’s request, calling hours and a time of sharing were held at Ducro Funeral Service and Crematory in Ashtabula. He is remembered with love and gratitude by family and friends who carry his memory forward.
