Remembering Edward

A life held close in memory

Edward “Ed” Randall Scott, 62, of Midland, Texas, passed away on June 12, 2026. Known to family and friends simply as Ed, he lived a life defined by devotion to those he loved and a deep passion for the game of softball.

Born January 14, 1964, Ed built a life rooted in family and community. He was the loving husband of Laura Vasquez Scott and a proud father to Ashley Delacruz, Jacob Scott, Jill Scott, and Jared Scott. He delighted in his role as “Grandpa Ed,” and took particular joy in time spent with his grandchildren. He is also survived by his mother, Carol Scott, siblings, and a wide circle of extended family and friends who treasured his kindness and good humor.

For more than three decades Ed gave much of his energy to softball as an umpire. What began as a pastime grew into an enduring calling: he officiated at local and regional games, mentored younger umpires, and carried the sport’s spirit with integrity and cheer. Colleagues and players remember him for fairness on the field, a quick wit that eased tense moments, and a welcoming presence that made every player feel seen.

Beyond the diamond, Ed was regarded as a steady presence in his community through his work with the City of Midland and his many friendships. He cared deeply about showing up for others, whether offering a listening ear, lending a hand, or sharing a laugh. Those who knew him recall his warm smile and the way he made ordinary gatherings feel special.

Family and friends honored Ed’s life with visitation on June 22, 2026, at Crestview Baptist Church, followed by a Celebration of Life service on June 23, 2026. In remembering Ed, his family asks that loved ones hold fast to the small, everyday ways he showed love — through time shared, generosity, and the joy he found in the game he loved.

Ed’s legacy is one of service, steady care, and a love of sport that brought people together. He will be remembered for the warmth he gave freely to family, friends, and the broader softball community — a presence that left a lasting and positive mark on many lives.
