Devon Lewis

Devon M. "Black" Lewis was a cherished member of his Memphis community whose warmth and easy smile left a lasting impression on family and friends. Known to those close to him as "Black," Devon was a devoted father to three daughters — Teyunna Claxton, Detorrie Lewis and Regina Lewis — and a beloved son of Diane and George Lewis. Family was central to Devon's life, and the many messages shared after his passing speak to how much he cared for and looked after the people he loved.

Devon grew up connected to his local community and the school and church circles that shaped many of his earliest friendships. Classmates and friends remember him from St. Augustine and Memphis Catholic, recalling his energy, his love of joking and his readiness to lift others' spirits. Those memories — from teammates to neighbors — show a man who valued friendship and who kept people smiling through everyday kindness.

His family arranged services to celebrate his life at St. Augustine Catholic Church, with R.S. Lewis & Sons Funeral Home caring for arrangements and burial at Calvary Cemetery. In condolence messages posted by friends and former classmates, Devon is described as someone who would check in on others, offer encouragement, and hold a special place in the hearts of those who knew him from childhood onward.

Though his life ended too soon on August 7, 2011, Devon's presence continues in the stories shared by friends and family — in laughter, in remembered conversations, and in the love he showed his daughters. He is survived by his daughters, his parents, grandmother Mrs. Maurice McDonald, a brother, and a wide circle of relatives and friends who honor his memory.
