Remembering Derek

A life held close in memory

Derek Allen Phillips of Mauriceville, Texas, passed away on January 6, 2015. Born March 10, 1987, in Orange, Texas, Derek was known for his passion for cars and car racing, his love of travel, and his outgoing spirit. He worked in sales with Allied Prudential in Beaumont and found joy in the everyday connections his work and community brought him.

A member of Power of Praise Christian Center in Orange, Derek valued his faith and the fellowship of his church family. Those who knew him remember a young man who lived life to the fullest, who loved to be around people, and who carried a generous and energetic presence into every room. His interest in automobiles and racing reflected a lifelong curiosity and a knack for hands-on interests that brought him happiness and friendships.

Derek is remembered by his family and friends for his warmth, enthusiasm, and the simple pleasures he treasured—road trips, time with loved ones, and the shared excitement of a well-tuned engine. Though his life was cut far too short, the memories of his laughter, his passions, and his devotion to those close to him endure among those who loved him.

A private time of remembrance was held by family and close friends. Derek’s life touched many in the Orange and Beaumont communities; his memory remains a cherished part of the lives he brightened. May he be remembered for the joy he brought and the spirited way he embraced each day.
