Deion Harris

Deion Sharif Harris (March 18, 1994 — October 16, 2019) brought laughter, rhythm and community to those around him. A devoted son and brother, Deion enjoyed music, rapping and comedy, and was known among friends for his easygoing humor and love of sports. He graduated high school and worked at Schwebel’s Bakery, where he took pride in showing up for his shifts and supporting his family.

Family was central to Deion’s life. He is remembered by his mother, Cherise (Dwayne) Cooper; siblings Whitney Bledsoe, Khievia Neail, Melvin Neail, Donnisha Harris, Shakimm Womack, Dontre and Donte Harris; step-siblings Dwayne Jr. and Lauren Cooper; and by grandparents and many other relatives and friends who cherished his company. Those closest to him recall a young man whose warmth and humor made ordinary moments brighter, whether he was joking with cousins, cheering for his favorite teams, or sharing his latest rap lines.

Deion’s interests reflected a creative and social spirit: a devoted sports fan who enjoyed the rhythm and storytelling of rap, and someone who could make others smile with his comedic side. He deeply loved his significant other, Jashai, and their daughter Amari Benson, who remained an important part of his life.

Friends and family came together to honor Deion at funeral services held October 26, 2019, at F. D. Mason Memorial Funeral Home. Those who knew him continue to remember a life that, though cut far too short, touched many with its humor, loyalty and quiet daily commitments. His family asks that memories of Deion emphasize the person he was in life — a son, sibling, partner, and friend — and the warmth he shared with those around him.
