Remembering David
A life held close in memory
David Lamar Benton Jr., born October 28, 2004, of Union Springs, Alabama, touched the lives of those around him with a gentle spirit and the easy companionship of a young man with deep roots in his community. Family and friends recall David for his presence at family gatherings, his close connections in town, and the quiet strength he brought to everyday moments. He carried with him the hopes and plans of so many young adults — dreams that will remain a lasting part of his memory.
A celebration of David’s life was arranged by Carter Funeral Home with visitation and a public commemoration held in early November 2024 at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church and at the funeral home in Union Springs. Those services gave neighbors, classmates, and family members space to honor the joy he brought to their lives and to offer one another comfort.
David is survived by his loved ones who mourn him deeply and who remember him in the small, everyday ways that made him unique: the way he laughed with friends, the presence he offered to family, and the place he held in his community. While words cannot undo the loss his family feels, those who knew David remember a young man whose life mattered deeply to those around him.
In honoring David’s memory, the community held fast to compassion and support for his family. His passing left an indelible impression on Union Springs — a reminder to cherish the people we love and the time we have with them. May his memory be a blessing to all who loved him.
