Remembering Darryle

A life held close in memory

Darryle Anthony Lee (September 7, 1978 – June 1, 2024) was a Kansas City man whose warmth, voice, and determination touched family and community alike. A graduate of Central High School, Darryle built a life as a self-made entrepreneur and took particular pride in speaking to young people about choosing school and safer paths in life. He believed in frank, practical advice and used his own experience to guide and encourage others.

Music was a constant for Darryle. He loved writing songs and singing, and his presence could lift the mood of any room — often remembered as the life of the party. Those who knew him recall someone who celebrated moments, enjoyed connecting with people, and found joy in creative expression.

Family was central to Darryle’s life. He was a devoted father to five daughters — DaLicia Aliza Unique Lee, Diamond DeShay Lee, Martina Da’nae Lee, Dekira Lee, and the late MoRay Anna Lee — and one son, Adrian “AJ” Lee, who held a special place in his heart. He is also remembered by his wife, Latoya Porter Lee; his first wife Felicia Rattler, described as a lifelong friend; his mother, Marie Antoinette Davis; brother DeAnthony (Style Dee) Drew Davis; sisters DaQuetta Dione Davis and Richetta Larita Collins; and an extended circle of aunts, uncles, and cherished friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Andrew Dean Davis, and grandmothers Anna Louise Lee and I. Davis.

Friends and family celebrated Darryle’s life with services at Golden Gate Funeral & Cremation Services in June 2024. Those who carry his memory forward remember a man who spoke plainly, loved deeply, and who gave his time and words to encourage the next generation. In remembering Darryle, people honor the joy he shared, the music he made, and the care he showed for his children and community.
