Dale Cross Sr

Rev. Dale R. Cross Sr., 66, of Byron Center, Michigan, passed away on August 6, 2018. A man of steady faith and deep devotion to family, Dale served more than three decades in ministry, including 24 years as lead pastor at Abundant Life Church in Wyoming. Before answering a higher call to full-time ministry, he served his country in the U.S. Marines and worked for a decade at General Motors — threads in a life marked by service, discipline, and care for others.

Dale treasured his role as husband and father. He and his wife, Rhonda, shared 44 years of marriage. He is survived by his children Tammy (Sterling) Blood, Jamie (Fidencio) Martinez, and Dale (Tosha) Cross Jr., his mother Dorothy Cross, siblings Reba Walling, Neil Cross, and Terry Cross, and a large extended family of nieces, nephews, 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren — whom he delighted in and took pride in. Family and grandchildren brought him great joy, whether in everyday moments or on the boat where he loved making memories and playful Jonah waves.

As a pastor and mentor, Dale was known for integrity, a sincere love for Jesus, and a pastoral heart that reached into his congregation and community. His preaching and presence left a mark on many lives over decades of service. He often reflected comfort and hope through beloved hymns, and “It Is Well with My Soul” was a song that spoke to his spirit and message.

Visitation was held at Cook Memorial Chapel in Grandville, with funeral services at Abundant Life Church of God in Wyoming, where colleagues and friends joined family in celebrating the life he lived. In honor of his ministry, the family suggested contributions to North Point Ministries.

Dale Cross’s life was one of steady faith, family devotion, and quiet leadership. He will be remembered for the warmth he gave his family, the care he extended to his congregation, and the simple, steadfast expressions of love that defined his days.
