Obituary

A formal remembrance

Cuauhtemoc “Temo” Estrada, 50, was a devoted husband and father, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of Operation Desert Storm, and a 20‑year member of the Cook County Sheriff’s Office. Known to family and friends as “Temo,” he worked most recently in the Sheriff’s Electronic Monitoring Unit and was respected by colleagues for his steady commitment to public service.

A proud family man, Cuauhtemoc cherished time with his wife, his son and daughters, and his grandchildren. His faith in service — to his country, to his community, and to his loved ones — was central to who he was. Those who knew him remember a reliable presence who put family first and carried a quiet professionalism into his work.

On December 20, 2013, while off duty and attending a family gathering, Cuauhtemoc made a selfless effort to protect his daughter and her companion. He was taken to Loyola University Medical Center and was later pronounced dead. The outpouring of respect that followed reflected the many lives he touched: hundreds of law enforcement personnel joined a funeral procession to honor him, and state and local proclamations recognized his sacrifice and service.

Cuauhtemoc’s life was marked by service — as a Marine, as a public‑safety professional, and as a family man. He is survived by his wife, his son Daniel, daughters Araciele, Christina and Desiree, and his grandchildren. Those who loved him remember his loyalty, his strength, and the calm dedication with which he lived his life. He will be remembered with gratitude by family, friends, and colleagues whose lives he enriched.
