Remembering Cody

A life held close in memory

Cody Alan Baseman, born September 15, 1987, in Albert Lea, Minnesota, is remembered for his generous spirit, easy smile and close ties to family and community. Cody grew up in Albert Lea and remained rooted there throughout his life. Family came first to Cody; he treasured time with his four daughters — Havana, Miya, Arianna, and Grace — and took pride in helping relatives and neighbors. Known for his ability to fix things, he spent many hours helping his grandfather with odd jobs, working on vehicles, and lending a hand wherever it was needed.

Cody held a number of jobs over the years and was described by those who knew him as industrious and practical. He worked as a supervisor at Hardee’s and later at EZ-Rental, and friends recall him as someone who could tackle a repair or a backyard grill with equal skill. Outside of work, Cody enjoyed music, hunting, fishing, and taking care of his Ford — pastimes that connected him to friends and family in the community. He was also an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Albert Lea.

Those who knew Cody remember his contagious smile, social nature, and readiness to help others. He had a gift for making connections — able to walk into a room of strangers and leave knowing many of them by name. Cody’s warmth, willingness to assist, and devotion to his children left a lasting mark on his family and friends.

Cody passed away on September 24, 2015, in Albert Lea at the age of 28. He is survived by his daughters; his parents, Lori Callahan and Wade Baseman and Craig Eggers; grandparents; siblings; and a wide circle of extended family and friends who continue to celebrate his life. Those who loved him recall his hands-on helpfulness, his love of family, and the everyday kindnesses that made him unique. Cody’s memory lives on in the laughter of his children, the stories shared by family, and the quiet acts of care he offered to others.

Funeral services were held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Albert Lea with interment at Hillcrest Cemetery. Friends and relatives were invited to share remembrances and support the family during visitation and the service. The family also set up a memorial fund to assist with expenses in the wake of his passing.
