Claudia Burgan

Claudia RaeAnn Burgan, born July 30, 1959, in Waukegan, Illinois, devoted much of her life to public service and to the people of Sawyer County. For nearly twenty years she served as Clerk of Courts for Sawyer County, a role in which colleagues remember her careful attention to detail, steady leadership, and deep knowledge of courthouse operations. Her work reflected a commitment to serving her community with competence and integrity.

Claudia was a daughter, mother, grandmother, and sister whose family remained central to her life. She is survived by three daughters, Jennifer Schumacher, Roberta Nugent, and Alexandra Burgan, as well as several grandchildren, her mother Rose Mary Burgan, siblings, nieces and nephews. Those who knew her recall a reliable presence who took pride in doing her job well and who cared about the people she worked with and served.

Family and friends gathered to celebrate Claudia’s life at a service held at Hayward Wesleyan Church on August 6, 2016, where those who loved her shared memories and comforted one another. In keeping with her spirit, memorials in her name were suggested to the Northwoods Humane Society.

While the community grieved the sudden loss of someone many called dedicated and dependable, the remembrance of Claudia centers on the life she led: steady public service, devotion to family, and a quiet competence that earned the respect of coworkers and neighbors alike. Her contributions to the Sawyer County courthouse and her role within her family leave a lasting impression on those who knew her, and she is remembered for the care she brought to both work and home.
