Clara Strange

Clara Strange of Lufkin, Texas, was born November 6, 1930, in Pollok, Texas, and passed away on April 1, 2008, at a Lufkin hospital. A devoted wife and a warm grandmother and great‑grandmother, Clara brought care and creativity to family life and community. She retired from her work at the Lufkin State School and was an active member of First Baptist Church of Lancewood. Those who knew her remember Clara for her outgoing spirit, her love of quilting, and the many meals and moments she shared with family and friends. She is survived by grandsons Samuel Keith Fernandez and Eloy Fernandez, Jr., granddaughter Marisa Fernandez, great‑grandchildren Samuel Kane, Sarai, Hector and Elijah Lugo, sisters Eve Krell and Laura Mae Oates, and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. Clara was preceded in death by her husband, A.C. Strange, daughters Betty Fernandez and Sheila Woods, and several siblings. Services were held at First Baptist Church of Lancewood with interment at Aldredge Cemetery. Friends were invited to visit with the family at Gipson Funeral Home. In honor of Clara’s life, memorials were suggested to First Baptist Church of Lancewood. Clara’s family asked that her memory be kept through the simple kindnesses she practiced and the handmade quilts and meals that reflected a life lived for others.
