Remembering Carla

A life held close in memory

Carla Denise Frye Williams (38) of Hampton, Virginia, was known for her caring spirit and her commitment to helping students and families succeed. As an instructional supervisor with the Department of Student Advancement—ESL for Newport News City Schools, Carla worked to support learners and to strengthen the school community. Coworkers remembered her warm smile and steady presence in the office and in schools.

Carla was a loving mother to her daughter, Tori Kaitlyn Williams (born Feb. 1, 2011), whose life brought joy to family gatherings and everyday moments. Family meant everything to Carla. She is survived by her sisters, Marcia Munoz and Wendy Veney; nieces and nephews; and a circle of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who remember her kindness and the light she brought into their lives. Her “Nana,” Marjorie Veney, and other close relatives were part of a family network that Carla cherished.

Those who worked with Carla in the ESOL program recall her dedication to students and colleagues alike — taking time to listen, to offer guidance, and to advocate for children learning English. Her professional commitment was matched by the natural warmth she showed to others, and by the small gestures that made school days better for students and staff.

Services were arranged through Bradley Funeral Home in Luray, Virginia. In remembering Carla, family and friends recall her beautiful smile, the love she held for her daughter, and the many quiet ways she contributed to her community. Her family’s grief is met by the many messages of sympathy that followed her passing; those messages speak to how deeply she had touched the lives of people who knew her.

Carla’s life was marked by care for others — in her work, in her family life, and in the friendships she formed. Her memory lives on in the students she supported, the colleagues who relied on her, and the family members who loved her. To honor her, friends have invited expressions of sympathy and remembrances, and many have chosen to celebrate her life by supporting causes and connections that reflected her concern for young learners and for family.

Carla was gone far too soon. May the love, memories, and moments connected to this life continue to be treasured, and may those mourning find comfort in remembering what mattered most.
