Bryan M. MacFarlane

Bryan Michael MacFarlane, 41, of South China and a cherished member of Maine’s Deaf community, died on October 25, 2023. Bryan was known for his steady kindness, love of the outdoors, and the joy he found in simple pleasures like time with his dog, M&M.

A hardworking man who took great pride in his accomplishments, Bryan was among the early deaf drivers in the region to earn a commercial driver’s license — an achievement that reflected his determination and independence. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and snowmobiling, and he treasured gatherings with friends where he could laugh, compete in cornhole, and share community.

Family and friends remember Bryan for his warm presence, his camaraderie in local leagues and events, and his readiness to help others. He returned to Maine to be closer to family and to the supportive community he loved; that closeness meant a great deal to those who knew him.

A celebration of Bryan’s life was held at Funeral Alternatives in Lewiston, where family, friends, and members of the Deaf community gathered to honor his memory and the ways he enriched their lives. Those who loved Bryan continue to remember his quiet strength, his pride in hard-won achievements, and the warmth he brought to ordinary days.
