Remembering Brian

A life held close in memory

Brian Nicholas “BJ” McKellop Jr., born May 17, 2002, carried a warmth and energy that left a lasting impression on family, friends, and community. A proud Marine and a sophomore at Florida Southwestern State College, Brian lived with a clear desire to serve others — whether through his commitment to the U.S. Marine Corps or in everyday acts of kindness that those close to him recall with affection.

Loved as a son and brother, Brian is survived by his parents, Simone Anson and Brian McKellop Sr.; sisters Chelsie, Diane, Briana and Deanna; brothers Joshua and Dillan; grandparents, aunts, uncles and a large circle of cousins and friends. Those who knew him speak of an enormous heart and a memorable presence — someone whose energy made ordinary moments feel brighter.

Family and friends gathered to honor Brian’s life with a public memorial service at First Baptist Church in Cape Coral on September 17, 2022, followed by a committal at Coral Ridge Funeral Home & Cemetery. The service served as a space for loved ones to celebrate his life, share stories, and support one another in grief.

Brian’s life was defined by service, love of family, and the quiet, steady ways he showed care for others. Though his time was far too short, the compassion and joy he shared continue to be remembered by the many whose lives he touched. He will be held in the hearts of his family and friends as a young man who gave of himself and who will not be forgotten.
