Remembering Breanna

A life held close in memory

Breanna Lashea Bates, 25, was cherished as a devoted daughter, sister and mother whose presence brought love and care to those closest to her. She is remembered first and foremost as the loving mother of her little daughter, Aislyn Williams, who was central to Breanna’s life and hopes for the future. Family and friends recall Breanna’s close bonds with her mother, siblings and extended family, who surrounded each other in shared memories and support.

Born and raised in the region, Breanna remained tied to her community and family throughout her life. She is survived by her mother, Rebecca Gary; her father and extended family members; and a number of brothers and sisters who spoke of her with tenderness. Her brother Hakeem R. Cunningham was among those who remembered her care and the ways she looked after family in times of need. Those who knew Breanna will remember her for the everyday devotion she showed to the people she loved.

Family and friends gathered to honor Breanna’s life at a funeral service held on Saturday, May 24, 2025 at New Beginnings Baptist Church in Clinton, South Carolina, with burial following at Calvary Memorial Gardens in Laurens. The Beasley Funeral Home of Laurens assisted the family with arrangements and invited the community to join them in remembering Breanna’s life and offering support to her daughter and loved ones.

Though her life was far too short, Breanna’s memory endures in the daughter she loved and the family she treasured. Those who wish to express sympathy were encouraged to share condolences with the family and to support one another as they grieve. Her family’s call for compassion and an end to senseless violence reflects the deep loss felt by those who knew her best.
