Remembering Benjamin
A life held close in memory
Benjamin Willie “BenGino” Dixon (March 3, 1990 – April 24, 2022) was a devoted father, brother, and friend whose presence was felt across the West Florence neighborhood he called home. Born in Columbia, South Carolina, Benjamin grew up in Florence and attended Florence Public Schools. He was a familiar face in the community known as “The Bottom,” where he enjoyed playing basketball and supporting local events.
Benjamin loved two things in particular: family and words. A proud father, he is remembered by his sons, Benjamin Gino Dixon Jr. and Ishmael Gino Dixon, and his daughter, Trinity Rene Dixon. He was the beloved son of Clinton and Gloria Dixon and is survived by sisters Tabitha McDowell and Rachel Brown, brothers Clinton Dixon and Timothy Dixon, and a wide extended family of nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles who cherished him.
An avid sports fan, Benjamin rooted for the Boston Celtics and the New England Patriots and could often be found talking basketball with friends. He was also an earnest student of scripture—baptized early in life and engaged in conversations about the Bible—and that faith shaped much of his quiet strength.
Benjamin’s creative side found expression in writing; he authored two books and was working on a third volume of Finesse 2 Death. His family and friends remember him for sponsoring community events and for the warmth he showed to those around him.
Those who knew Benjamin recall a man who cared deeply for his children and his neighborhood, who loved a good game and a thoughtful passage from scripture, and who carried himself with the steady affection of someone who valued family above all. His family welcomed visitors and tributes as they gathered to honor his memory. Please hold Benjamin’s loved ones in your thoughts and prayers as they celebrate his life and the impact he made in Florence.
