Athziri Cervantes

Athziri “Ziri” Elizabeth Cervantes Buentello was a bright and caring young woman whose kindness left a lasting impression on family, friends, and the children she taught. Born in Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico and raised in Houston and later Friendswood, Texas, Athziri grew into a warm-hearted person who loved caring for others and sharing small joys.

A graduate of Pasadena Memorial High School, Athziri was active on the track and field team and served as class president for four years—roles that reflected her leadership and team spirit. She later earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Houston and hoped to return to school to pursue nursing, driven by a desire to help others in a meaningful, hands-on way.

Athziri found deep fulfillment in community work. She devoted time to teaching karate to children, where her patience and encouragement helped young students grow in confidence. Photography was another way she expressed care: she delighted in capturing special moments for those around her and sharing those memories with family and friends. Those who knew her remember a gentle, compassionate person with a playful sense of humor and a generous heart.

Above all, Athziri treasured her family. She gave much of herself to those she loved and had a natural gift for making people feel valued and comforted. Small details—her fondness for sweets and the easy way she could soothe someone—are fondly remembered and speak to the warmth she carried into everyday life.

Athziri’s family has asked that her memory be honored with love and kindness. Her legacy lives on in the children she taught, the friends she supported, and the family who loved her. May those who knew her hold on to the compassion and light she shared.
