Remembering Anthony
A life held close in memory
Anthony “Tony” Ralph Ward (August 10, 1980 — January 4, 2020) was cherished for his dedication to family, his craft, and small everyday joys. Born and raised in Washington, D.C., Tony grew up surrounded by the love of his parents and grandparents, and he carried those close bonds into adulthood. He attended Eugene Myers Elementary, Garnett Patterson Middle School, and Lincoln High School in the District, and those neighborhood roots remained an important part of his identity.
Tony built a life centered on family. He and his wife Heather married in 2009 and later made their home in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. He was a proud father to his children — Antwuan Roach, Alaya Ward, Chyna Ward, Anthony Ward Jr., and Alexis Ward — and a stepfather to Joseph Robinson Jr., Andre Robinson, and Marcella Robinson. Family gatherings and shared trips were among the moments he treasured most.
A tradesman by heart, Tony made his living in home improvement, a line of work he began in his teens and pursued with skill and pride. He enjoyed working with his hands and taking on projects that helped provide and care for his family. In quieter moments he loved fishing, traveling with those closest to him, and cheering for the Dallas Cowboys.
Tony was known to many by the nickname “T‑40,” a simple sign of the affection friends and family felt for him. He often spoke fondly of his grandparents, Otis and Delores Mickle, and he remained close to his siblings Demetrius and Marquette Ward as well as his sisters Rachel, Roslyn, Rebecca, and Rachell Hall.
Those who knew Tony remember a steady presence who delighted in practical work, family time, and small pleasures. His passing on January 4, 2020 was a profound loss to those who loved him. He will be remembered for his gentle strength, devotion to his family, and the everyday kindnesses that made him—by all accounts—a beloved husband, father, son, brother, and friend. May his memory live on in the stories and quiet moments shared by those he leaves behind.
