Anetone Simanu

Anetone “Tone” Simanu (August 23, 1987 – September 3, 2023) was a warm, spirited presence to family and friends. Born in Falefa, Samoa, Tone carried a joyful, adventurous spirit throughout his life — a boy who spent his childhood near ocean waves and family gatherings and who grew into a man known for his easy laugh and playful teasing. He moved often and made friends wherever he lived, never judging others and always ready with a story, a joke, or a friendly challenge.

Tone loved being part of a close family. As a son he was devoted; as a brother he delighted in teasing his siblings yet stood ready to protect them. He treasured his role as an uncle and was proud to be a father. Everyday joys mattered to him: he was a self-confessed car enthusiast, a passionate Dallas Cowboys fan, and someone who enjoyed sharing a cold beer and good music with friends. At work he took pride in his job as a traffic control maintainer, where colleagues remembered him for his dependable presence and sense of humor.

Those who knew Tone remember him as the family comedian — quick with trash talk in playful contests and always ready to make others laugh. He earned a special place in the lives of those close to him for his affection, stubborn streaks, and the small, particular habits that made him uniquely Tone. His family recalled him fondly as their mother’s “pele,” and his nieces and nephews will remember his knack for sneaking them sweets and making them smile.

The family received many expressions of sympathy and gratitude for the kindness shown by friends, neighbors, and colleagues. Services were arranged by Dalton-Hoopes Funeral Home with a final viewing and pastoral service held in mid-September 2023, followed by burial at West Jordan City Cemetery. In honoring his memory, loved ones have asked that people remember Tone for the laughter he shared and the warmth he brought to those around him.

“If love could have saved you, you would have lived forever.” Tone’s family asks that those who loved him continue to support one another as they carry forward his memory.
