Remembering Anaya

A life held close in memory

Anaya “Reese” Q. Herndon of Columbia, South Carolina, was born September 12, 2003. Surrounded by the love of family and friends, she passed away on March 19, 2025.

Anaya’s life was honored with a public visitation at JP Holley Funeral Home’s Northeast Chapel, followed by a Celebration of Life at Second Nazareth Baptist Church. Those services brought together relatives, classmates, neighbors, and others whose lives she touched to remember her bright presence and the promise she held.

Known to many by the affectionate nickname “Reese,” Anaya is remembered through the memories shared at her service and the condolence messages left by those who loved her. The arrangements handled by JP Holley Funeral Home provided family and community members an opportunity to offer support, reflect on her life, and celebrate the moments that mattered most to her.

Her passing was announced by the Richland County Coroner, and the community came together in the weeks that followed to mourn and to honor her life. While words cannot fully capture a single life, those who gathered for Anaya’s visitation and celebration sought to keep her memory alive through stories, prayers, and acts of care for one another.

Family and friends who wish to leave remembrances or send flowers were directed to the funeral provider, where a guest book and tribute wall allowed the community to share memories. Anaya’s family asked for privacy as they grieved and gave thanks for the support shown by the Columbia community.
