Remembering Ana

A life held close in memory

Ana Gilmore (August 3, 1989 — March 21, 2023) brought light and laughter to those around her. Born in Columbus, Georgia, and raised in the Crawford community, Ana was known for an infectious smile and a friendly spirit that made people feel welcome. She graduated from Smiths Station High School, where she played on the softball team, and carried her team spirit into every corner of her life.

For fifteen years Ana built a career in the field of ophthalmology, most recently working with ITEC in Montgomery. She approached her work with steady commitment and a care for others that matched her decision to continue her education — having completed course requirements at Southern Union, she was pursuing a nursing degree to expand how she could help people.

Away from work and school, Ana loved being outdoors. Deep-sea fishing and hunting were among her favorite pastimes, and she treasured the simple joy of those outings. Above all, Ana loved her family; she took special delight in the time she spent with her nieces and nephews, and family gatherings were a source of happiness for her.

Ana was the daughter of Gordon Gilmore and Priscilla Sanders Gilmore. She is survived by her parents; brothers Daniel Gilmore (Hannah) of Salem, AL and Dustin Gilmore (Taylor) of Phenix City, AL; nieces and nephews Emma, Daniel, Reed, Jolie and Colden; and many caring friends and extended family. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents James and Opal Darby.

Friends and family gathered to celebrate Ana’s life on March 25, 2023, at Vance Brooks Funeral Home. In keeping with her family’s wishes, contributions in her memory were requested to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Ana’s warmth, sense of fun, and devotion to those she loved are the enduring gifts she leaves behind.
