Remembering Ammar
A life held close in memory
Ammar Lewis Johnson was born in Spokane on July 6, 1993, and was the cherished youngest of five children. Family and friends remember Ammar for a generous heart and an easy, infectious smile — the kind of person who would help without asking questions and show up when someone needed him.
A proud graduate of Lewis and Clark High School in 2012, Ammar loved athletics throughout his life. He played basketball, wrestled, and ran track and field as a youth, took to snowboarding for the joy of being outdoors, and always returned to his favorite sport, football. Those pursuits reflected his steady teamwork, competitive spirit, and the joy he found in being part of a group.
Ammar worked for several years with Dump N Junk, where he was known for his dependable work ethic and friendly presence. Outside of work he treasured time with family and friends; he is remembered in Spokane as someone who carried himself with warmth and who made ordinary moments brighter for those around him.
He is survived by his parents, Gloria and Richard Sanford; his siblings Benny Johnson, Tavia Johnson, and Brandie Flood; and a wide circle of aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends who remain grateful for his kindness. He was preceded in death by his grandmother Ammer Gene Jordan, his grandfather Steve Lewis, and his sister Sherrell Sanford.
Services were held in Spokane in March 2022. Those who knew Ammar remember a gentle, helpful spirit and a smile that stayed with you. He is lovingly remembered by family and friends whose lives he touched.
