Alva Boyd Fortenberry

Alva "Boyd" Fortenberry, 63, of the Atoka area, passed away May 4, 2025, in Lane, Oklahoma. Born February 13, 1962, in Atoka, Boyd grew up in the Tushka and Atoka communities and graduated from Atoka High School with the class of 1980. He served his state in the Oklahoma Army National Guard and carried that commitment to service throughout his life.

Boyd worked for many years as a butcher at Rogers Food Market in Cartwright and later joined the family house-moving business, where his steady work ethic and practical skills were well known. He enjoyed making knives, collecting rocks and rusted metal art, and was known to friends and family for his fondness for dancing and the outdoors.

He married Regina Bridges; together they raised two sons. Boyd cherished his role as a father and grandfather and is remembered by his sons Devian and Dillon, and by grandchildren Alison, Finley and Dawson. He was active in the Baptist faith and was baptized at Tushka Baptist Church.

Boyd is survived by his sons Devian Fortenberry and wife Danielle of Cartwright, TX and Dillon Fortenberry and friend Tiffany Whiteside of Cartwright, TX; grandchildren Alison, Finley and Dawson; siblings Tammy Herring (Shriver), Brad Fortenberry (Pam), Rocky Nevada Fortenberry and Nikki Nicole Fortenberry; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alva Ray and Agnes Neoma (Graham) Fortenberry, sister Lisa Hyde and brother Allen Lee Bartells.

A graveside and memorial service was arranged by Brown's Funeral Service in Atoka, Oklahoma. In remembering Boyd, family and friends recall a hands-on life of craftsmanship, steady loyalty and the small pleasures—rock hunting, knife making and time with loved ones—that shaped who he was. His presence in the community and in his family’s lives is warmly remembered.
