Remembering Alex
A life held close in memory
Alex Hamzy (December 16, 1987 – October 12, 2022) was a Bristol native whose life was defined by devotion to family and community service. A graduate of Bristol Eastern High School, Alex brought his local roots and practical skills to work and life — from early jobs helping at his family’s restaurant to years in construction — before answering a deeper call to serve. He joined the Bristol Police Department in 2014 and spent eight years protecting the town he loved, gaining the respect of colleagues and neighbors alike.
Alex took pride in being a hometown officer. He was known for his steady work ethic, quiet dependability, and willingness to help young people through the department’s youth programs. Outside of work he cherished time with his wife, Katie, and his close-knit family: his parents Ahmad and Salma Hamzy, his sisters Donna and Rania, and his nephews. Family and friendship were central to Alex’s life; he often lent a hand where it was needed and kept community ties strong.
Colleagues remember Alex as a committed team member who celebrated the successes of his unit and took seriously the responsibilities of public service. In 2022 his unit earned recognition at the Connecticut SWAT Challenge — an achievement that reflected both his skill and his collaborative spirit. Following his passing, Alex was posthumously promoted to the rank of Sergeant, an acknowledgment of the dedication he brought to his work.
Though his life was cut far too short, Alex’s legacy lives on in the memories of those who knew him: a son who honored his parents, a brother who loved his sisters and nephews, a husband who stood beside his partner, and an officer who served his community with integrity. He will be remembered for his steady presence, his commitment to helping others, and the quiet ways he made life better for family and neighbors. His memory remains a comfort to those who loved him and an example of service to his hometown.
