Remembering Adam
A life held close in memory
Adam Tylor Fort-Grote was born January 16, 1984, in Winona, Minnesota. Those who knew him recall a gentle, honest, and mellow spirit who expressed himself through music and quiet care for others. A talented pianist and bass guitarist, Adam played in several local bands and taught piano lessons for many years, sharing his musical gifts with students and friends alike.
A 2002 graduate of Winona Senior High School, Adam continued his studies in computer science at Southeast Technical College. He worked as a machine operator at Watkins while maintaining his deep connection to music and the people around him. To family and friends he was steady and kind — someone who balanced practical work with artistic talent.
Adam is survived by his parents, Lynn Fort and John Grote; his children, daughter Aria and son Sebastian; his brother Benjamin Grote; grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends who remember his warmth and musical spirit. His family honored him with a prayer service and celebration of life where memories, music, and stories were shared.
Though his life was cut far too short on October 18, 2015, Adam’s legacy lives on in the music he made, the lessons he shared, and the small daily acts of kindness that defined him. He is remembered not for how he died but for the gentle presence he brought to his family and community.
